Bordeaux Mixture
Preparing 1% Bordeaux Mixture:
Dissolve 400 gms of Cu So4 - in 20 Litres of water in a container.
Dissolve 400 gms of Lime - in 20 Litres of water in another container.
Slowly pour Cu So4 solution into the lime solution. Stir well continuously.

Dissolve 1 Kg of Cu So4 - in 50 Litres of water in a container.
Dissolve 1 Kg of Lime - in 50 Litres of water in another container.
Slowly pour Cu So4 solution into the lime solution. Stir well continuously.

Dissolve 1 Kg of Cu So4 - in 5 Litres of water in a container.
Dissolve 1 Kg of Lime - in 5 Litres of water in another container.
Slowly pour Cu So4 solution into the lime solution. You will get a very thick paste like mixture that can be applied on cut wounds of trees using a brush. Add 90 litres of water to obtain 1% Bordeaux Mixture.
- CaCo3 – Calcium Carbonate, Ca O – Quick Lime, Slaked Lime – Ca (OH) 2
- The preparation vessel should be made of plastic or wood.
- Always pour Cu So4 solution into the lime solution and not vice versa.
- The resultant solution should be neither acidic nor alkaline. (Neutral)
- Litmus paper should show the value at 5.5 to 6.
- If the pH value is more than 8, then add Cu So4 solution and repeat the test.
- When a polished iron knife is dipped into the solution, copper should not be deposited on it. If so, then add Lime solution and repeat the test.
